The Writing Box In the 1860s, writing letters was the only way to keep in touch with loved ones when away. As the men went off to war this was one of the possessions taken along. The fittings were much the same whether they were fancy or simple. It carried all the needed items so they could write home. Ours is a limited edition replica of an officers box. Each is numbered with a certificate of authenticity. It has a mouth-blown ink bottle, hand-turned pen, writing rule and stationery with envelopes and stamps. A candle and holder is included as are military papers. A lock secures all. $275 in cherry or walnut. |
