Creators and Purveyors of Civil War Era Replicas

Our craftsmen create as close to the original as we can, items used during the U.S. Civil War period. We use native woods from our area, where many a battle was fought. Our workshop is on the New Market Civil War Battlefield, so we are as close to history as possible.

The Writing Box

In the 1860’s, writing letters was the only way to keep in touch with loved ones when away. As the men went off to war this was one of the possessions taken along. The fittings were much the same whether they were fancy or simple. It carried all the needed items so they could write home. Ours is a limited edition replica of an officer’s box. Each is numbered with a certificate of authenticity. It has a mouth-blown ink bottle, hand-turned pen, writing rule and stationery with envelopes and stamps. A candle and holder is included as are military papers. A lock secures all. $275 in cherry or walnut.

The Wood Lantern

The candle was one of the mainstays of light during this period. The wood lantern with a candle within, lit many a path, tent or campsite at night. We create a replica of an original from that time. It is wood with glass in the sides. A tin deflector over the opening on top keeps the heat from your hand as you hold it by the brass bail. $45

The Ammunition Box

During the Civil War, there were many different sizes of these made. The one we replicated was 1000 .58 caliber ball cartridges. It was used by both Union and Confederate forces. The Union model was painted and the Confederate one was plain. Ours has an oil finish and the cover is loose with locating slats. This is so it can be used for storage. 16"W 11"H 8"D   $59 for Confederate. $65 for Union.

The Uniform Protector

This wood piece kept in a pocket was used when polishing the brass uniform buttons. It was slipped over the button which was pulled into the slot and polished. Thus it kept polish from getting on the Uniform.  $4.95
